Texas Hold'em Poker Rules

Loose: a game without that many before the flop raising Tight: a game with quite a bit of raising before the flop In Texas Holdem Poker there are usually 2-10 players. Everyone is dealt 2 cards and there are 5 community cards.

The blinds act last on the first betting round, and then act first on all of the proceeding betting rounds. The game starts off with the Blinds. (Placing a bet into the pot before the cards are dealt) there are usually two blinds, one small placing a bet 1/2 of the minimum bet at the table and one larger blind. The blinds are the players sitting to the left of the dealer, the first player is the small blind and the second player is the big blind. Everyone will be dealt 2 cards, these cards are the player's private cards and no one should be able to see them. After everyone has received their cards the betting will start clockwise starting with the player to the left of the larger blind. The betting round will stop after all of the players have either called to any raise or folded their cards. This equalizes the table and the flop will be drawn.

The Flop will consist of three cards face up in the middle of the poker table. The flop is a part of the community cards which will eventually consist of 5 cards that all the players share. Another betting round starts up and will start with the players that posted the blinds. The betting round again, continues until all of the players have either contributed equal bets to the pot, or they folded.

This process continues until all of the community cards have been turned over. The fourth (called The Turn) and fifth (called The River) community cards are turned over one at a time with a betting round in between and after the fifth community card is turned over. Once the last betting round is completed, (after the fifth community card is turned over) the players will start the showdown.

The showdown is when the players turn their cards over to determine the winner of the pot. This will be the person with the highest hand. The game may not make it as far as the showdown. Quite often a player will successfully out bid/bluff their opponents into folding their cards. When this happens the last player with cards in the game wins the pot.

Texas Hold'em Strategy:

Play the hand differently once in a while, just to keep the other players from knowing exactly what you are doing - vary it a little.

Even though it can be frustrating when you fold on a hand that didn't look too promising, and then you flop the cards that would have made you a big winner. So try not to let it affect the way you play the next hand. Random holdings do not win enough to make it a profitable way of playing holdem poker.
